Consumer health data
Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy under Washington's My Health My Data Act. It also covers the Connecticut and Nevada health data laws. Updated 6 October 2026.
What we handle
- Motion activity: whether you're walking, cycling or in a vehicle, from your phone.
- Steps and distance: from your phone's pedometer.
- Apple Health workouts: read-only, such as a walk or ride you recorded.
Why
Only to notice your trips and count the emissions you avoid by walking or cycling. We never use it to guess anything about your health.
Where it stays
On your phone. If you turn on "Share my progress" (off by default), only daily totals (leaves and kg CO2e
avoided) and the time a walk ended are sent. They are stored in the UK, on Google Cloud in London
(europe-west2). Never trips, steps or locations.
Your consent
We ask separately, before any motion or activity tracking starts. You can say no and still use Canopy. Turn it off any time in Settings, and tracking stops straight away.
Never sold, never shared for ads
We don't sell consumer health data or share it with anyone for advertising. The only company that may hold any of it is Google Cloud, our processor, for the daily totals you choose to share.
Your rights
You can ask whether we hold your health data, see it, delete it, or withdraw consent. Use Settings → Delete all my data, or email us. We reply within 45 days. If we say no, you can appeal by replying to us, and then contact your state Attorney General.
