Terms of service
The rules for using Canopy, in plain English. By using the app you agree to them. Last updated 7 October 2026.
Who we are
Canopy is made by Rahul Sagar in the United Kingdom ("Canopy", "we"). Contact: founder@ed-any.com.
What Canopy does
Canopy is a carbon footprint app. It notices your journeys, food, shopping and digital use, suggests one high-impact swap a day, and turns the emissions you avoid into leaves. Some features are optional and only work if you turn them on, such as reading receipts from Gmail, leagues and households.
Footprints are estimates
Every footprint in Canopy is an estimate based on published emission factors, each with its source and year. They are meant to help you see your biggest levers, not to be exact measurements, and they are not financial, legal or professional advice.
Who can use Canopy
- In the United States you must be 13 or over, and in India 18 or over.
- An account is optional. If you create one, keep your sign-in secure; you are responsible for what happens under it.
Fair use
Please don't misuse Canopy. In particular, don't:
- break the law with it, or use it to harass anyone in a league, team or household;
- try to get leaves you didn't earn, for example by faking journeys or receipts;
- probe, overload or try to get around the security of the app or our server;
- copy or resell the app or its content.
We may suspend features or an account that breaks these rules, and will tell you why.
Connecting Gmail
Reading receipts from Gmail is optional. Canopy asks Google for read-only access and uses it only as described in Google user data in our privacy policy. Your use of Gmail is also governed by Google's own terms. You can disconnect at any time in the app or in your Google Account.
Leaves, trees and partners
- Leaves reward avoided emissions. They have no cash value, can't be bought, sold or transferred, and may be spent only where the app says.
- Trees are planted through a charity partner. A tree absorbs carbon over years, not days, and is never an offset for your footprint.
- Offers from local partners are their own; the partner is responsible for what they provide.
Canopy+
Canopy+ is an optional subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Billing, renewals, refunds and cancellation are handled by Apple or Google under their terms; on iPhone, Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Canopy+ never gates anything that reduces carbon. We never see your card details.
Your data
How we handle your data is in our privacy policy. You can export or delete all your data at any time in Settings.
Availability and changes
We work to keep Canopy running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may change or stop features. If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change applies.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer, or any liability that can't be limited by law. Apart from that, Canopy is provided as it is, and we aren't liable for losses that weren't foreseeable or that come from decisions you make based on an estimate.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, or in another country, you keep the protections your local law gives you.
